About this place
The lunchtime basket-style Japanese set meal brings together simmered greens, sashimi, grilled and simmered dishes, tempura, rice and a dessert. It’s an easy choice if you’d like to sample several kinds of Japanese food in one meal. One diner who ordered it found the flavours subtle and the portion just right. Another reported that the sashimi included straw-smoked bonito, whose smoky aroma stood out as they ate.
Other lunch sets include Ikoi, with a small opening dish, appetisers, sashimi, warm dishes served in a basket, rice and dessert, and Aoi, served in two courses. In the evening, you can order à la carte or choose the Shun kaiseki course, which has 19 dishes from the first small dish through to dessert. The à la carte menu includes freshly made rolled dashi omelette, house-made karasumi (cured mullet roe) with daikon, salmon grilled with koji miso, and rice cooked with various ingredients—plenty of options for building a meal through to its close.
At Chisou in Jiyugaoka, diners have reported watching the cooking from the counter, while others have enjoyed a leisurely lunch with friends in a private room. Reservations are recommended for both lunch and dinner, so it’s worth booking ahead whether you’re coming for the basket-style lunch or a relaxed evening course.
